After three years of running training clinics in the Washington metro area, Benfica Soccer School is excited to start travel soccer for the 2019/20 season.
Friday, May 24
This session has been moved to Gallaudet University, 800 Florida Ave, NE, Washington, DC 20002
Players who have participated in previous Benfica clinics should wear their Benfica uniform. Otherwise, players should wear a red shirt, white shorts, and red or white soccer socks. Please do not wear clothing that indicates another club (youth or professional). Players should bring water and shin guards, but do not need to bring a ball. Pleas arrive 15 minutes early to check in.
Boys and girls, ages U9 and up. Travel soccer is for players and families looking for a competitive and committed soccer environment.
The travel season begins in late August and usually finishes in June. Top tier teams will train throughout the year.
The curriculum and program are designed by SL Benfica's technical staff and mirror the training methods used in the academy in Portugal. Teams are coached by our SL Benfica resident coaches from Portugal and professional American assistants.
The travel soccer program is designed to help players develop at every age and focused on the long term development of our players. As appropriate, players will move between age groups and team levels to ensure they are in the right competitive environment.
Age groups may have multiple teams, with players selected by their skill level. The Red team is the top tier team in each age group, followed by White and Yellow teams.
All teams will participate in EDP leagues, Virginia State Cup or President Cup competitions, and other domestic and international tournaments (based on coach recommendation and team interest).
Placement on a travel team is competitive. Interested players must participate in Player ID sessions and be selected by the technical staff.
There are two training locations - Fairfax, VA and College Park/Silver Spring, MD. Teams will practice exclusively at one of the two locations (Fairfax teams will not be expected to travel to Maryland for training and vice versa).
Members of the travel soccer program will pay a program fee to participate. The fee is dependent on the player's age and team level and in line with other clubs in the Washington, DC metro area. Monthly payments are an option and limited scholarships are available.
In addition to the program fee, there is a team fee which will cover individual team costs like tournament fees, coach travel costs, and US Youth Soccer competitions (i.e., State Cup, Regionals, etc.) Prior to the start of the season, Benfica Academy DC staff will work with parents to plan tournament participation and better define the team fee.
Finally, families are required to cover their own individual travel costs and pay for uniform and practice gear for their player.
